opera vs. theatre

hey, I am a veteran stage manager getting ready to run my first opera (though I have called my fair share of musicals)

any thoughts on the differences between opera process/performers/directors/designers vs. theatre?

I have worked in both mediums as a director.
I would be willing to discuss it with you.
It all really depends on the director and their approach.
A SM should probably know how to read music first of all.
....anyway, if you have specific questions, let me know.

I do know how to read music, (albeit stumblingly) so I've got that covered. I am told that the director for this gig is really easy to work with, and at least the LD is someone I've worked with a couple times before.

I suppose a meeting with the director to discuss his process preferences is in order.

I've done work on both and the only difference that really stuck out for me were the cues. There were so many light cues that I almost went cross-eyed. But it was a lot of fun and I'm sure you'll be great.

It'll also give you a chance to learn a bit of a different language.

    Good Luck!
